Tom Fazio's Home Course
Frequently referred to as America's greatest living golf architect, Tom Fazio has been designing golf courses for more than 40 years. No other living designer has more achievements on Golf Digest's list of America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses and Golfweek's Best Courses. Champion Hills is currently ranked the #1 private, year-round course in Western North Carolina and is one of Tom’s favorite designs. Tom chose Champion Hills to be his family’s summer home course and visits frequently. He also hosts a charity tournament at Champion Hills with the assistance of the members to benefit the local Boys and Girls Club.
Tom recalls that when he first saw the Champion Hills site, he fell in love with its “beauty, uniqueness, scale and unusual character.” He realized that the dramatic rise and fall of the mountain terrain would naturally dictate the par on each hole. His design is guided by the land: each fairway sits in its own valley, with homes tucked discreetly into the woods along the hillsides. Each hole feels like a world unto itself—part of a mountain masterpiece with few intrusions or distractions.
